Service & Mission

We serve as a meditation retreat and a get away from it all community. Escape to paradise for a much needed eco vacation. Our cabins and rooms on the hill of Shambhala overlook Playa Zipolite.

We have a restaurant and work shop (taller) available for lease, short term or long term. Our meditation point overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Bay of Cameron serves as a ceremonial site, creative activity center or for fireside chats around the Kiva (fire pit).

Our new cafe on the beach below is called, "El Bohimio" which is an appropriate name for such delectable food. This is the only approved Shambhala service that serves wine and beer. The rest of Shambhala is alcohol free and we do not permit any recreational drugs on our property! We have a very peaceful and harmonious place that embodies joy, entertainment, relaxation and fun!

Gloria Johnson the proprieter is proud to offer her place as the spring board into Southern Mexico for those looking to relocate because of the post 9/11 transition. We have limited space available to lease or buy Shambhala owned land. We also have approx. 12 acres of undeveloped property with an access road next to the beautiful Chacalapa River in the foothills of Oaxaca. It has shade grown coffee bean trees and many types of flora and fauna. We call this land "El Encanto" and is a must see as a day trip or weekend camp out. Shambhala guests can make arrangements with Gloria to visit El Encanto.

Our mission is to live in harmony with nature and be at peace with all living things. We practice conservation along with mindfulness in our quest to be at one with the elements. Always living love in the present moment amid the awesome beauty of nature. Namaste my dear sisters and brothers of this beloved planet.

Shambhala's Famous Rock

This beautiful rock with a hole through it sits next to Shambhala 's bluff. A few brave souls have climbed up to the top of this rock, but it's not recommended. This rock is surrounded by water and is difficult to get to unless you're an experienced climber.

We have over twelve acres of river front land with shade grown coffee bean plants on it. The river is awesome and the land is virgin in the foothills of Oaxaca. See it for yourself! Makes a perfect retreat for any spiritual minded group.

Be advised we do not take reservations at this time. Our rentals are based on a first come first serve basis. You can be put on a waiting list for rooms and cabins when you arrive if none are available at that time.

with private bedroom, loft & bathroom.

Our rentals are on a limited first come first serve basis. The bathrooms are communal but private. Dormitories are shared loft spaces and serve as a hostel for low budget travelers. Private rooms and cabins are simply furnished. However we now offer a few cabins with a private bathroom for those guests who prefer them. All occupants must adhere to our policies while using Shambhala facilities.

Shambhala is available as a "lease to buy business". If interested you must contact the owner to see her at Shambhala during October & November or February & March. Gloria has on site manage/caretaker throughout the year and we are open year round. Please make arrangements to see her about leasing the business (six month lease minimum) during temporada ( tourist season). We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who does not adhere to our policies. Please fax Gloria about interest in a lease to buy option for Shambhala Vision. All or part of the business is available. Opportunity awaits those with a vision to enjoy nature at its best while living in Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca.

You can share a dream with us by keeping our hillside village ecologicaly intact. Plants and animals are protected at Shambhala.
